1492—Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was the greatest explorer and colonizer of his time. All of his voyages
were funded by Queen Isabella of Spain. He had thoughts and had brought to the awareness of the Queen of Spain the there was
the chance of the being more lands in the Western part of the hemisphere. Queen Isabella wanted a quicker trade root for the
spices that Spain had and in 1942 sent Christopher Columbus out on a voyage to find a quicker route by water to get the spices
to the location where the were being traded at. Spain, at the time, had the greatest spices of the time and were well on the
way to being the greatest trader/producer of the days. After studying the best maps that they had available at the time he
figured that instead of sailing around Spain, you could just sail around the world and get there in half the time. On his
way he stumbled onto one of the islands in the Bahamas. This being the first discovery of the “New World” for
the 15th Century Europe to claim.
